Turning the corner of the bridge over the Seine, I was moved to write down a comment about absurdity.
Logic of the absurdity brings possible events together into core of whole appearing.
Absurdity overturns a world of connected causality with the identity of wholes finding consistence in their consequent pulling together of their essential reality. God lives as the absurd, writing a coherent tale through the different instances of appearing.
Before coming to Paris, a conversation with my mother had revealed that a few yards from where we were supposed to be meeting to participate in the Water University event, was the flat in which my mother had lived with my grandparents from 1929. A few yards down the road, and I was absurdly standing before the flat where my mother and my grandparents had lived before their departure in 1939 to America. Of course I had never been able to imagine this period of my mother’s life without relating to the larger story of the Holocaust. But due to the unlikely series of events of the coincidence of addresses of the conference and the family history, I was suddenly confronted with the reality of this period, communicating a story of gentleness and joy of childhood.
A lot of my mother’s behaviour suddenly unlocked when walking through this doorway into time. My insight into wholeness of a few moments earlier was joined by an unlocking of the individuality of the essence of my upbringing of protecting childhood innocence within the essence of a society that could not be trusted. Generational divide transforms into the shared illumination of childhood integrity. Separation and wholeness are moved in common story where the instance lives its significance within a living and open sense of the essential.
The invitation of Global Synapses is to bring out all of these secret stories of commonplace individual action. These stories may be of the land, or of the family, or of oneself, but come together in illustrating a different sense of the collective impression of potential moving our age.
The absurd brings home the individual place in the universal story. The consequence of such absurd events returns us to the essential integrity at the heart of life. What our science and society has divided (the atom symbolically into the bomb) life re-joins.
The encounter makes me want to open up the site to other stories of people wanting to find the absurd in their own stories and to connect them up with the consequence of finding the story of our age.
