We all value staircases which we walk up and down without a second thought tens of times a day. They take us up and down building without even reflecting that we are actually doing something naturally difficult for us, to raise ourselves 20 metres into the air! Stairs are a great invention. Let us call this type of invention stair-walking science!
But what happens when something goes awry and we find ourselves falling down stairs! Now the stairs are another type of challenge, one that centres in our consciousness as we try to navigate their immediate peril safely. The stairs have to be understood totally newly as something that is taking us ever faster into the unknown and away from certainty. Suddenly we have awareness of the stairs, as we experienced as a child, before we were used to climbing them, as something with its own outside presence and identity. This type of encounter we might call stair-falling science.
Our hypothesis is that however useful stairs have been in telling us how to climb through manageable intermediate stages, we are facing a situation globally where stair-falling science is again a valuable wisdom to help us meet the world afresh in all its challenges and opportunity. In this journey we are taking, we show that one only understands the science of constructing stairs by falling off the division of steps previously created, and venturing into living the ascent newly from the ground up.
Experience gives us the sense of stair making, of ascending to a vision that we do yet fully possess or know how to reach. Experience guides us as if we are children again of how to allow reason to follow on from its own claim into the ascendancy of a determination of life about its own meaning. Experience teaches us how to climb to wholeness as we search for the sum of the value of our steps, individually taken.
Instances remake their link of consequence outside our own construction of the sense we make of them. Our life opens into an arc of an arising of meaning beyond the separation of our faring. Experience becomes the join that illuminates wholeness to the steps that reason makes anew. We are the rainbow of connection between Heaven and Earth, into which where every striving, belief and practice adds.
We find that at each stage of science, there is a double energy of invention, one into bringing the world into steps of manageable ascent as Newton, and another into appreciating the whole leap the steps are trying to make, as Leibniz. There is a science of wholeness through experience that sums through the entire history of our journey into fragmentation through number. Wholeness as an experience founds the choice of many people from diverse backgrounds and practices from around the world coming together to redeem the endless arithmetic of fragmentation.
We find that instead of falling off the stairs of science into the void that climate change and economic uncertainty represents, that the steps of science lead to a place, whole in our experience. The stairs take us again into new ascent to the whole that lives its own miracle. The magic of life constructs the join of connection to know our evolution from the arrival at a new meaning to our sum.
